Evaluator, I and Evaluator, II

Vantage Evaluation
Job Description
Finding the right people to join our team is the most important thing we do...

We are always on the look out for new additions to help us achieve our mission. We hire both experienced and new evaluators. Review the job descriptions below and see which might be a fit for you.

Our hiring process is not for the faint hearted: we are slow and deliberate about who we bring on, and the things that we will ask of you look different than most job applications. Instructions on how to get started are included in the job descriptions. We review applications once a month.

Please note that all positions are full-time and located in Denver, Colorado. Below are TWO positions:

EVALUATOR, I
You are:

You are deeply passionate about evaluation, and using it to help purpose-driven organizations
drive social change. You don’t just want to do evaluation; you want to improve how evaluation is
done. You are excited by the many hats evaluators wear, and have started to develop skills in
some of them: people skills to facilitate and coach, holing up in the office and flexing your data
ninja skills, fluency with quantitative methodologies, fluency with qualitative methodologies, and
knowledge of a wide range of evaluation approaches. We don’t expect you to have all these
skills right now, but you should have expertise in two or more. Our projects are rarely
straightforward, and require a creative thinker who can identify patterns across a broad array of
data sources and make sense of less-than-perfect data. Your written and verbal communication
skills are the best of the best; you can highlight technical work clearly for nontechnical
audiences. You are a team player, and thrive in coordinating with others, moving seamlessly
from one project role to another. You work with little direction. You’re brave in your work and
willing to push yourself beyond what you think you already know.

We are:
A fast-moving company, with a leader and team who are driven and goal-oriented. We love
what we do while we’re at work, we love what we do when we’re not at work, and we make time
for both. We don’t micro-manage, and we create space for people to do big things. We enjoy
and support each other. We’re constantly tweaking our work to serve our clients and our
industry better. We grow personally and professionally. We change the world around us.

We expect seven critical behaviors of all our team members:
(1) Embrace your zeal. We love what we do, and we aren’t afraid to let it show.
(2) See the big picture. We keep an eye on how our individual work connects to a larger
purpose.
(3) Be a whole person. We recognize and celebrate the porous boundaries between work
and life.
(4) Lean on your teammates. We reach out and ask for help when we need it.
(5) Strive to improve. We grow and learn, and push those around us to do the same.
(6) Prioritize contribution. We give help (both inside and outside the company) whenever
we can.
(7) Accept good enough. We work within the constraints of things we cannot change, and
don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good.

What you’ll do for us:
You will join our evaluation team, with responsibilities for behind-the-scenes project work,
strengthening the field of evaluation, and improving our internal operations. You will help design
and execute evaluation strategies that answer clients’ key evaluation questions, working with a
team across all aspects of evaluation design, data collection, analysis, and reporting. You will
start in a support role on our projects, with the opportunity to begin leading projects as your
skills advance. You will help us build evaluation capacity among Colorado nonprofits, and play
an active role in the local evaluation community. You will help us develop new business streams
and optimize the way we work.

How to let us know you want IN!
Don’t send a resume. Instead, send an email to jobs@vantage-eval.com with “Evaluator, I” as
the subject line and answer these 4 questions. We check applications once a month, so once
you have submitted, be patient with us.

(1) How is this position a fit for you?
(2) What would you get out of working in the environment described here?
(3) What are the three biggest strengths you could bring to our team?
(4) How can we support you – what do you need from us to be successful?

For this position, we hope to hire a candidate new to evaluation, who has some skills and a
willingness to develop others. If this job appeals to you, but you have substantial evaluation
experience, apply for the Evaluator, II position  (below). Applicants who apply for both positions will not
be considered for either.

We look forward to hearing from you!
